Why do you have 'Mens' and 'Womens' shoes? Why not just Unisex shoes?Updated 23 days ago
This topic is something that we have discussed at great length. Obviously our Men's and Women's shoes can be worn by anybody - they are timeless styles.
The biggest stumbling block is sizing, the structure for men's and women's shoe sizes are quite different. For example a women's size 6UK is different to a size 6UK men's (somewhere between a half and a full size difference.) Both sizes are globally accepted within their own sizing structure (men's & women's). but when you start to combine them (unisex sizing), that's where things start to get difficult.
We say this from experience, as we did for a while have combined unisex styles for men and women. We labelled the shoes as accurately as we could, to cater for both size structures, along with an explanation as to how they can expect the shoes to fit against their more familiar men's or women's sizing. Unfortunately the whole thing was a disaster and we had to revert back to the previous sizing structure, because it was much more widely recognized and accurate.
We also had to factor in international sizing too which adds a whole other realm. If we were to keep the unisex sizing structure, it's highly likely we’d hit a brick wall of never ending returns and exchanges, even with all the info on sizing in the description. We’ve noticed over the years that customers tend not to read this and opt for their usual size regardless.
To put it plainly, the only reason why we follow this sizing structure is that we want to give our online customers the best chance of receiving shoes that fit correctly and comfortably the first time round. The best chance we have to do this, is to follow the already recognised sizing structures. We are still a young company (circa 4 years old) so the risk of many returns/exchanges because the sizes are not what people are used to, is a risk too great for us at this stage.
If you are looking at purchasing some shoes from a different sizing structure than you are used to, our advice is that:
• If you are familiar with the Women's size structure but you are looking at buying a shoe in the Men's section, we suggest that you purchase the size down.
• If you are familiar with the Men's size structure but you are looking at buying a shoe in the Women's section, we suggest that you purchase the size up.
